At Akindale, retirement means more than simply leaving the racetrack behind. It means having a safe place to call home for life.

Our sanctuary provides lifelong care for retired Thoroughbreds who, because of age, injury, or physical limitations, are no longer suited for a traditional second career. Here, they have the opportunity to simply be horses, living in herds, grazing across our fields, and receiving the individualized care they need throughout every stage of retirement.

Providing lifelong sanctuary is a commitment we make every single day. From hay, feed, and farrier care to veterinary treatment, medications, dental care, and maintaining the farm they call home, caring for our herd is a year-round responsibility.
